Fields of Study
In an era where globalization and localization are progressing hand-in-hand, we offer a PhD. programs in regional social studies and regional policy studies centering on the Kitakyushu area, but incorporating East Asia and South-East Asia, and adding to this the perspective of thought and culture.
1.Urban Societies
The field of Urban Societies seeks to analyze from multiple perspectives the current reality of regional societies like Kitakyushu, looking at various sectors including government, industry and civil society. It also conducts research into different areas of urban policy including industrial development, community rejuvenation, community welfare, youth education, and environmental conservation.
2.Thought and Culture
The field of Thought and Culture seeks to contribute to the creation of civil society and community culture at a regional level and conduct research into the present day situation concerning civil society ideas, human culture, and linguistic culture from global perspectives.
3.East Asian Societies
This field focuses on the so-called 'Bloc of East Asian Societies', which includes East Asia and surrounding countries, and conducts research on the political system, the economy, culture, history and international cooperation of the region.
4.International Development Policy in Collaboration with AGI
Based on a collaboration with the Asian Growth Research Institute, the aim of this course is to foster human resources capable of conducting research and formulating policy in the fields of international development and regional governance in the Asia region. This will be achieved through an all-English, integrated system of education.
